Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday that this government has suspended export permits of military drone technology to Turkey, while seeking clarification on allegations that the technology is being used to target civilians in the renewed fight in Armenia.
During question period at the House of Commons, Trudeau said his government is aware of those allegations and has immediately sought clarification.
Turkey’s foreign ministry accused Canada of "double standards" following the decision.
“There is no explanation of blocking defence equipment exports to a NATO ally … Canada does not see any harm in exporting arms to countries that have military involvement in the crisis in Yemen,” Turkey’s statement said.
The prime minister called on all parties to peacefully resolve the conflict and to stabilize the situation on the ground.
