Fraser Island fire: massive blaze on World Heritage-listed site burns for six weeks

Holidaymakers have been asked to stay away from Queensland’s Fraser Island, or K’gari, as authorities struggle to control a huge bushfire that has been burning for six weeks. The fire has been raging through the World Heritage site, destroying hectares of forest. Fire and rescue teams have been battling fires on two fronts made worse by a heatwave affecting Australia’s east coast.
